What I found interesting about wikis - the varied applications within libraries. I love the Princeton Public Library's Book Lovers Wiki. This website allowed customers to participate in the summer reading program and share book reviews. This year our adult and teen summer reading participants wrote book reviews. A wiki similar to the Book Lovers Wiki would be a great way to share these reviews next year.

The Library 2.0 in 15 Minutes a Day is similar to our 23 Things.

I also found something potentially extremely useful on the Library Success: A Best Practices Wiki . . . EZ Library Programs. Essentially, this is a search engine for library programs. Don't reinvent the wheel! Check it out.

Thing #15

I really liked Michael Stephens's perspective on Library 2.0, "Into a New World of Librarianship." He describes the library as a social and emotionally engaging center for learning and experience. While, Dr. Wendy Schultz, in "To a Temporary Place in Time," writes libraries are convocations of people, ideas, and artifacts in dynamic exchange. I get the same feeling from both of these descriptions. Though much of libraries are predicted to be virtual, they will serve people with experienced tour guides. And in this way libraries will remain human.

CCPL has come a long way baby! We have made great strides in becoming participatory and barrier free user centered libraries.

According to Stephens, libraries in the new world still allow staff time to play and learn . . . gotta love that! Oh, and I learned a new word . . . biblioblogosphere. Try saying that three times fast.

Thing #14

Once I figured out how to search for "Learning 2.0" in Blog posts, in tags, and in the Blog Directory . . . using the advanced search, I discovered the results are different. This makes sense as Blog posts, videos, and photos are tagged "Learning 2.0."

Many of the top favorited blog, top searches, and top blogs are in other languages . . . interesting. Heather, Owen Wilson is currently the 9th top search!

Thing #13

Because the Del.icio.us tutorial is still disabled, I checked out the other option. Kathleen Gilroy's podcast demonstrates Del.icio.us's potential for research assistance. Though it is not simply an easy way to create bookmarks that can be accessed from anywhere, this is a very nice application. I would be interested in bookmarking resources for storytellers.
